Junior Clinical Investigator Program (JCIP)

An integrated training program providing junior clinical faculty with an interest in academic medicine with opportunities to develop the skills and tools necessary to succeed.

About the JCIP program

This 24-36 month program will combine formal and individualized training based on the professional aspirations and career goals of the Junior Clinical Investigators. All training will be under the tutelage of a dedicated primary mentor and a group of secondary mentors.

The program is designed for individuals who are beginning in their specialty and are already hired as, or are eligible to be hired, as faculty.

The JCIP fellow will be allocated 30% protected time. This time will be supported: (a) 60% by EVMS Research and (b) 40% by the Department at the yearly National Institute of Health (NIH) salary cap rate.

Each JCIP fellow will receive up to $50k per year up to 3 years to support research and professional development.

Eligibility

The program is designed for physicians with an MD or DO degree who are:

  • Eligible for medical licensing in the state of Virginia
  • Board-certified or eligible for board certification
  • Faculty or in recruitment as faculty
  • At or below the rank of Assistant Professor
