Training requirements
When the VHS Office of Research is notified an investigator or lab members will be conducting research involving pre-clinical models, biohazards, or human subjects, a member of the applicable compliance committee(s) will reach out the investigator with information about required training.
IACUC Whistleblower policy
EVMS strives to maintain the highest standards for animal welfare, and is committed to meeting and surpassing all applicable government guidelines and regulations for animal care and use. One of the roles of the IACUC is to review and if warranted, investigate all complaints of suspected incidents of animal mistreatment or noncompliance at the Institution. All complainants will remain anonymous and are protected against reprisals according to Federal law "whistleblower protection" and under Institutional Policy.
Federal assurance of compliance
The EVMS IACUC has an Assurance on file with the Office of Laboratory Animal Welfare (OLAW) for the use of animals in research. In addition, the EVMS Division of Comparative Medicine is certified and monitored by the USDA for registered research facilities. The EVMS Animal Program is accredited by a voluntary federal accrediting agency, the Association for the Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care, International (AAALAC).
The EVMS IRB has an Assurance with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services which ensures that human subjects research will follow principles of The Belmont Report and will comply with federal regulations.
Compliance questions, comments, or concerns should be directed to the Office of Research.
