Why did you choose this program? I chose the Dermatology program for my residency for three reasons. The first reason is that the program is very community oriented and it is important to give back to the community I grew up in. Second, this department celebrates, welcomes and encourages diversity from staff, to residents, to attendings. I believe this allows us to serve our community well. Lastly, the attendings and staff are committed to our education and learning and have created a very relaxed, non-toxic environment, which I believe has greatly strengthened my knowledge and skills.
What advice do you have for students applying to dermatology? Get plugged in to the Dermatology Interest Group Association (DIGA). They provide volunteering, networking, and research opportunities for students interested in Dermatology. The resources they provide can help strengthen your application.
