The Instructional Design and Technology team recognized the 16th annual celebration of distance learning with a week of insightful webinars and engaging panel discussions about the pivotal role of artificial intelligence in education.
Sponsored in conjunction with the United States Distance Learning Association (USDLA), National Distance Learning Week (NDLW) aims to highlight best practices, discuss emerging trends, recognize leaders, and generate greater awareness and appreciation for distance and digital learning. Sessions presented by both EVMS and USDLA centered around the timely theme, “AI in Education: A Double-Edged Byte?” and explored the multifaceted impact of AI on teaching, learning, and the educational landscape as a whole. This is an excellent opportunity to gain a comprehensive understanding of the benefits, challenges, and ethical considerations surrounding AI integration in education.

Brielle Ashley, MAEd&HD
Brielle Ashley is the Director of Instructional Design and Technologies and an educator in the Medical and Health Professions Education programs. Brielle provides leadership in instructional design, course development, quality assurance and administration of the learning management system and its associated technologies. She delivers training on all aspects of instructional design and delivery to colleagues within academics, students' support and administrative units.

Katrina Dash
Katrina Dash has over 10 years of experience working in higher education. Before joining EVMS, she was an Assistant Professor at Tidewater Community College, where she taught Anatomy and Physiology and Environmental Science. She also served as their Sciences Department Chair and assisted multiple faculty members with rapid online conversion of their laboratory-based courses during the pandemic.

Kathy Gabana
As the Instruction & Assessment Designer, Kathy Gabana works closely with stakeholders of varying levels to support the design, implementation and ongoing maintenance of the course evaluation framework for the EVMS School of Health Professions. Kathy’s mission is to provide support to all educators in developing quality assessments, course and program evaluation and the promotion of student-centered approaches to learning.
