2021 Survey

The 2021 HEDS survey was administered to EVMS students from March 22 to April 30. The survey was administered electronically with an invitation for students to take the survey made available via a general link emailed to all students. The full frequency report data contains comparison data of the EVMS responses to roughly 650 advanced degree students at 7 other institutions. Approximately 103 EVMS students completed the full survey, for an overall response rate of 8%. This is slightly lower than the 11% response rate from advanced degree students at other institutions.   Since survey completion rates at EVMS and other institutions were low, be cautioned that results are not necessarily representative of EVMS students (or students at other institutions). For 2022, HEDS will be providing a direct email link to students in an effort to increase response rates.

In addition to the frequency data, some students provided open-ended comments (identifiers were scrubbed by HEDS and no comments were linked to any other data for anonymity).  Comment data will not be provided, but generally reflect concerns about:

  • Underreporting because no one will take action
  • Unsatisfactory action by EVMS in past cases
  • Concerns about bias including the perception that men are always perpetrators
  • Lack of empathy or support during/after an investigation
  • Insufficient feedback to reporters about if/how behavior was addressed
