The committees within the Department of Research at Eastern Virginia Medical School ensures the safety of research animals and that faculty/student researchers are complying with all governmental regulations.
Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC)
Under the Public Health Service (PHS) Policy and United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Regulations, the IACUC has the authority to oversee all research involving the utilization of animals.
Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC)
The EVMS Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) executes its function in accordance with the principles and guidelines established by the Department of Health and Human Services, National Institutes of Health and the Center for Disease Control & Prevention.
Conflict of Interest Committee (COI)
The Conflict of Interest Committee (COI) shall be the final authority to either approve or disapprove interests disclosed and/or management plan(s) submitted by the designated authority for a decision or by the covered individual in any appeal process.
Institutional Review Board (IRB)
The IRB reviews research involving the use of human subjects at EVMS and at other designated institutions and private practices. In addition to all EVMS sites, services are available for Sentara sites, CHKD sites, Bon Secours sites and other medical facilities, as well as some private practices.
