Why I Chose EVMS: I chose EVMS because of the evidence I saw of the excellence of the resident training experience at this program, regardless of career goals. Not only were residents prepared to begin functioning as general surgeons without any need for additional training, but there were also residents who successfully pursued subspecialty training. As someone very much interested in pursuing an academic career, I have also been encouraged by the opportunity granted at this program to pursue optional dedicated research time, and I hope to continue my interests in cardiothoracic surgery in this manner. In my brief experience, both the faculty and fellow residents have been invested in our learning and professional development, and I have no doubt this will be a great place to train during the next phase of my education.

Hobbies & Interests: Reading classical literature, playing the piano, listening to vinyl records, painting with watercolors, completing jigsaw puzzles, writing short stories

Interesting Fact: As a child, I spent some of my early years living overseas with my family. Prior to medical training, I studied human cognition and healthcare equity. Inspired by early academic encouragement from my loved ones, I am proud to be the first physician in my family.
