Medical students interested in finding a project should complete the Student Interest Application.

MSR will review your application and begin the matching process based on your research experience and interests.

In order to apply for any travel grant from Student Affairs or Office of Research, please complete and submit this form to Office of Research. Additional information may be needed to clarify what grants you are eligible for and what options are available to you. If you have any questions, please email MSR. 

MSR360: MSR offers a mini-grant to students looking to complete an original research project during their MS-1 or MS-2 year. Note: This grant is not available to students who have already received other internal EVMS grants. 

There is no limit on how many MSR360 mini-grants are awarded. Each application is evaluated based on project impact and contribution to furthering students’ research knowledge and skills. Grants who meet the criteria are awarded based on availability of funds and personnel.

Community Outreach Grant: The Community Outreach Grant allows students to receive additional funding for extramural initiative resources and/or events. The maximum amount a single student can request is $600. You must complete the grant application at least 30 days prior to the start of your project or activity. Please also attach a budget outlining all costs related to your activity/event and the exact amount you hope the grant to fund. Applications submitted without a detailed budget will be denied funding.

Summer Scholars Program: The Summer Scholars Program is a mentored research internship offered by EVMS and Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters (CHKD) in Norfolk, Virginia. The competitive 11-week program is open to college seniors (rising or graduating) and first- or second-year graduate or medical students who are exploring potential careers in medical, biomedical, public health or behavioral research.

Yes. Funding opportunities are available each academic year and students who were not successful during their first submission may reapply.

MSR will respond to all requests within 2-3 business days.

Compensation is neither required nor to be expected for participating in research projects. Specific internal/external grants may include student compensation/reimbursement, but varies depending on the funding source.

Awardees of the MSR260 mini-grant will receive a one-time award at the beginning of their project. Students receiving the MSR 360 grant should submit the MSR360 application and signed W-9 to msr@evms.edu. Otherwise, you should refer to Department who dispersed your award.
