Online course quality

EVMS Online takes course quality seriously.

We help bring together faculty subject matter expertise, student’s readiness to learn, and the best practices in instructional design and technology. Designers work closely with faculty as they develop new courses. Likewise, designers review every class before it is offered and make specific suggestions to faculty to increase ease-of-use and engagement.

Course development and student support

EVMS Online courses follow a course template. The template brings material to the surface of each course so students can access anything within a few clicks. It also provides a consistent structure from course to course which helps students navigate. The template does not prevent faculty from putting their own unique stamp on the course.

All EVMS Online courses include student resources that can provide just-in-time guidance. The Network Information Center provides support to students 24-7, and for escalated issues, the Instructional Design and Technology team typically responds within one business day.

Technology

EVMS Online delivers courses through Blackboard, including plugged-in tools like VoiceThread, Collaborate Ultra and Panopto. Each of these tools offers apps for your mobile devices and can be operated from any platform. Additional technology requirements are outlined by the Network Information Center.

The Instructional Design and Technology team provides training on-demand, virtually or face-to-face for groups, and one-on-one coaching when needed. Just like students have resources at their fingertips, faculty do too. EVMS Online staff maintains an internal resource center where faculty can review step-by-step guides, videos and checklists, all aimed at creating high-quality online teaching and learning experience from start to finish.

Program review

You should be fully confident, not just in each EVMS Online course, but in the EVMS Online program curriculum.  All programs are overseen by an experienced program director and supported by an administrative team.  Each program conducts an annual assessment of program health and performance. We strive to continually improve with annual planning.  The Instructional Design and Technology team conducts a program review to verify the curriculum aligns with student needs and industry standards upon request of program directors.
