Our physicians are full-time teaching faculty at EVMS. Physicians in training (residents) and medical students are an extension of our practice. This integration of our practice with EVMS residents, physicians and students enhances your care and provides an academic advantage unique to our group.

Primary care and chronic diseases
We offer a variety of primary care services including routine check-ups, preventative care and immunizations.
We also help patients manage a variety chronic diseases including diabetes, anxiety/depression, hypertension, high cholesterol, ashthma, heart disease and obesity.
Our skilled physicians are experienced in many common outpatient procedures including vasectomies, IUD placement and removal, skin lesions and ingrown toenail removal.
With a referral from a doctor, we can also perform exercise treadmill tests, colposcopies, endometrial biopsies and joint injections.
We specialize in diagnosis and treatment of sports-related injuries and treat a variety of conditions and patients at all activity levels. In addition to injury treatment, the Sports Medicine clinic physicians are experts in nutrition and weight management, injury prevention and strength and endurance training.
Margaret Y. Baumgarten, MD
Dr. Baumgarten is the Charles F. Burroughs Jr. Chair in Family & Community Medicine and Professor of Family and Community Medicine. She also serves as Chief Quality Officer of EVMS Medical Group.
John Snellings, MD
As Associate Professor of Family and Community Medicine, Dr. Snellings provides primary care for residents of Hampton Roads. He is also Residency Program Director and oversees resident and medical student education. He received his medical degree and completed his residency at Eastern Virginia Medical School.
Thomas Grant, MD
Dr. Grant has been practicing family medicine for more than 30 years. He received his medical degree from Wake Forest University – Bowman School of Medicine and completed his residency at EVMS. He has a passion for patient-centered care and takes pride in building positive, supportive relationships with patients and their families.
Althea Gunther, MD
As Assistant Professor of Family and Community Medicine, Dr. Gunther is dedicated to providing care for underserved populations and disease prevention. She received her medical degree and completed her residency at Eastern Virginia Medical School.
Alison Dobbie, MB, ChB
Dr. Dobbie is Chair and Professor of Family & Community Medicine. She is well-versed in both family medicine and medical education, having been awarded over $7 million in educational research grant funding for her studies on educational methodologies and interventions, cultural competence and community-oriented primary care. Dr. Dobbie earned her medical degree at the University of Glasgow and completed a residency at the University of Edinburgh, both in Scotland.
Sahira Humadi, MD
Dr. Humadi is Associate Professor of EVMS Family & Community Medicine. She is an advocate of patient-centered medical care and believes this approach can improve health outcomes. She received her medical degree from College of Medicine at Baghdad University and completed her residency at EVMS.
