EVMS Ear, Nose and Throat Surgeons are here to provide superior and compassionate care for patients of all ages. As part of an academic medical center, we are able to offer the most advanced treatments for disorders of the ear, nose, head and neck. Our physicians are highly skilled, fellowship-trained experts in their chosen subspecialties.
Our offices are conveniently located throughout Hampton Roads including Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Chesapeake and Newport News. We strive to help you feel comfortable and confident as a patient. After all, we are the doctors who teach the doctors.
Barry Strasnick, MD, FACS
Dr. Barry Strasnick is a Professor and Chairman of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at EVMS. He is the Director of EVMS Otology, Neurotology and Skull Base Surgery, Director of the EVMS Hearing and Balance Center and President of the Coalition for Hearing, Education and Research (CHEAR).
Dr. Strasnick is board certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery with a subspecialty in Neurotology/Skull Base Surgery.
Ashley A. Schroeder, MD
Dr. Schroeder is board certified by the American Academy of Otolaryngology Head & Neck Surgery and received her medical degree from The University of Virginia. After joining the US Navy, Dr. Schroeder completed her Otolaryngology residency at the Naval Medical Center in Portsmouth, Virginia. Dr. Schroeder is the recipient of numerous military honors including the Meritorious Service Medal and Navy & Marine Corps Commendation.
Eric Dobratz, MD
Dr. Eric Dobratz is the Director of the Division of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in EVMS Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery. He is also Board-certified in facial plastic surgery. Dr. Dobratz has a highly specialized practice where he focuses exclusively on plastic surgery of the face, head and neck. He has double board certifications from the American Board of Otolaryngology and the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
Thomas Q. Gallagher, DO, FAAP
Dr. Gallagher is an Associate Professor of Otolaryngology at Eastern Virginia Medical School. He is board certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology and belongs to several professional societies including the American Society of Pediatric Otolaryngology and the American Academy of Pediatrics.
Benjamin Rubinstein, MD
Dr. Rubinstein completed his residency at Eastern Virginia Medical School and is board certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology. His clinical interests and skills include laryngeal and voice disorders, treatment of the professional voice, neurolaryngeal disorders, laryngeal and tracheal reconstruction and pediatic voice disorders.

This depends on what kind of insurance you have.
If you have an HMO, you must:
- Get a referral from your primary care physician before calling to make an appointment.
- Make sure your referral has not expired. Many are good for only 30 days, so be sure to check before you come to your appointment.
- If your referral has expired, call your primary care physician and explain your situation. In most cases, your doctor will provide a new or extended referral.
- Bring the referral with you to the appointment. If you do not have a referral, or if the referral you have is expired, your HMO will not pay for your appointment.
If you are experiencing a medical emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room.
You may reach your doctor's office Monday - Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. at the regular office number.
