Why I Chose EVMS: I chose EVMS for the training and the location. When I interviewed with the residents (who are all graduated and successful by now), I got the sense that they were very well trained and confident in their ability to practice straight out of residency and that was attractive to me. That being said, EVMS also has a strong track record of residents matching into competitive fellowships should they choose that route. The second reason was simply the location. I've always lived in the Midwest where we had frigid winters and tons of snow. It's a nice change of pace to not have to clean the ice off your car or shovel snow during the winter.
Now, having gone through 4 years of residency so far, I can say that the program does have very strong surgical training. I have no trouble getting my number of cases and there is a nice balance of responsibility and supervision.
Hobbies & Interests: I like to garden and have my own little herb garden.
Interesting facts: I am an avid skateboarder and longboarder and I have two tiny dogs named Cookie and Cream.
