  • The GME office offers Support U, which is a peer support program designed to help health professionals who have experienced a work-related traumatic event, such as the loss of a patient, to deal with the accompanying emotions.
  • The GME office offers Final Rounds, which is a program designed to allow Residents and Fellows to discuss challenges surrounding the loss of patients. The meeting is facilitated monthly by the Program Director for the Hospice and Palliative program and a licensed Social Worker.
  • The GME office provides the Well-Being Index (WBI) to all Resident and Fellow training programs. The trainees are required to complete the WBI twice a year and report the completion of the survey to their Program Director. Trainees are encouraged to discuss any findings or areas of concern to their program for follow-up support if needed.
  • Sentara Norfolk General Hospital provides a Zen Den where Residents, Fellows, Faculty, and Staff can enter and utilize it for short mental breaks. The Zen Den allows for low lighting, comfortable massage-like chairs, and an overall quiet space to relax. This is a work-free zone and a place for peaceful reflections and quiet time.
