New name but same mission

We are proud to announce that Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS) is now Macon & Joan Brock Virginia Health Sciences Eastern Virginia Medical School at Old Dominion University. While our name has changed, our commitment to improving brain health and neurological care remains steadfast.

Our Neurology Residency continues to provide comprehensive, hands-on training in a variety of clinical settings, enriched by our integration with ODU. This collaboration expands research opportunities and strengthens our efforts to advance neurologic care and medical education.

Where you'll train

Sentara Norfolk General Hospital

Sentara Norfolk General Hospital is home to the area's only Level I trauma center and burn trauma unit and the region's premier heart program. It also serves as a Comprehensive Stroke Center and a level IV Comprehensive Epilepsy Center.

The hospital offers a broad range of clinical services that enhance residency training. Residents complete several neurocritical care rotations at this facility during their second, third and fourth years.

Sentara Princess Anne

Sentara Princess Anne Hospital is a 160-bed acute care hospital that serves southern Virginia Beach, Chesapeake and northeastern North Carolina. Sentara Princess Anne Hospital, in partnership with Bon Secours Virginia, brings quality clinical outcomes, experienced physicians, award-winning patient safety initiatives, advanced technology and a patient-centered approach to care for patients. Residents practice at our outpatient office on this campus.

Fort Norfolk Plaza

Fort Norfolk Plaza Medical Associates houses Sentara Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Specialists, where fellows complete their outpatient and continuity clinics. The practice, which includes the Sentara Sleep Center, Sentara Transplant Center and an eICU, offers patient care for pulmonary, hypertension, pulmonary fibrosis chronic obstructive pulmonary disease patients.

Sentara CarePlex Hospital

Sentara CarePlex Hospital is an acute care hospital and Certified Primary Stroke Center. The 224-bed hospital offers an eICU to monitor patients with modern equipment and software. Sentara CarePlex Hospital offers advanced surgical programs, emergency cardiac intervention and maternity care services. Its orthopedic hospital was the area's first medical center dedicated to orthopedic care. Our residents take on chief-level vascular responsibility during their four-month rotation at this teaching site in their fourth year of training.
