At EVMS Family Medicine, we believe in supporting resident wellness throughout the entirety of your three years of training. We have put in place multiple systems to ensure that all residents have the necessary support to grow academically and thrive professionally and personally.

  • Wellness Chairs who help organize and coordinate resident centric wellness events 
  • Support monthly wellness events paid for by the residency program. Some examples include the following:
    • Top golf
    • Bowling
    • Yoga
    • Comedy shows
    • Fall festivals
    • Halloween and holiday parties 
  • Support monthly Wellness Wednesdays paid for by the residency program. Past events were located at various restaurants and breweries in the Hampton Roads (Pelons, Baker’s Crust, Elation Brewing, Torch Bistro, Veil Brewing, etc.)
  • Support a yearly wellness retreat for all residents paid for by the residency program. 
    • No clinical obligations during this 24-hour period
    • Faculty help cover clinical responsibilities at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital and Maryview Hospital for the period that the residents are away (admissions, rounding, discharges, rapid responses, etc.)
  • Support for time off during the holidays that doesn’t count against the 15 days of sick leave 
  • Back up system to cover clinical duties at Ghent Family Medicine, Portsmouth Family Medicine, Sentara Norfolk General Hospital or Maryview Hospital should a resident need to Group shot of residents on the beach with the ocean behind themutilize sick leave.
  • Catered lunch every Wednesday afternoon during didactics
  • Intern Meet and Greet Event where all of our incoming interns as well as sports medicine fellows can have an opportunity to meet our residents, faculty (core and community) as well as local leaders who all help to support our program.
