Dr. Dempsey is an Associate Professor and Program Director for the Physician Assistant program and the Doctor of Medical Science program at Macon and Joan Brock Virginia Health Sciences at Old Dominion University. Dr. Dempsey has taught graduate students in the PA program at EVMS since 2007 and became Program Director in 2016. She is the founding Program Director for the DMSc program at EVMS. Dr. Dempsey earned her Bachelor’s degree in Biology from Old Dominion University and MPA degree from Eastern Virginia Medical School. She earned her Doctor of Education with an emphasis in healthcare education and higher education leadership at Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Her research interests include adult education, professional development, curriculum development and student success. Prior to entering academia, Dr. Dempsey practiced clinically at Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters specializing in Pediatric Dermatology. Dr. Dempsey has been an invited lecturer at regional and national PA conferences speaking on a variety of Dermatology topics. She has partnered with the AAPA on national dermatology education initiatives targeting PAs and NPs.
