Background and Description

The Community Faculty Achievement Awards honor outstanding performance by EVMS community faculty and will be presented at the 2023 EVMS Service and Recognition Awards Ceremony.

Procedure

The awards are presented in two categories; find descriptions of each award below. When you are ready, fill out the Community Faculty Award Nomination Form. Be sure to have all of your required documentation accessible before beginning the nomination process. You will receive a confirmation email once complete.

Documentation

The nominator provides the name, title and department of the nominee along with documentation including:

Required:

  • an updated curriculum vitae
  • a letter of nomination not to exceed one-page describing the accomplishments of the nominee. If longer than one page, only the first page will be included in the application review.

Optional:

  • up to two one-page (not to exceed one-page) letters from colleagues, peers or others in support of the nomination. If longer than one page, only the first page will be included in the application review.

The nominator’s letter/statement and the nominee's CV are the essential documents reviewed by the Awards Committee in selecting the recipients of these awards. Therefore, every effort should be made in the nominator's letter to highlight the nominee's accomplishments, especially those that may not be evident in the nominee's CV pertinent to the award category.

Deadline

Nominations are being accepted through Monday, September 11, 2023. Nominations will NOT be accepted after this date. 

Eligibility

All EVMS community faculty in good standing with at least one year of service to the institution are eligible to receive recognition with these awards. Each recipient will receive a $500 monetary stipend and a commemorative award.

Awards

This award recognizes an EVMS community faculty member who excels in their work and consistently supports and meets expectations of their role, relative to EVMS, at a high level in at least one of the institutional mission areas: teaching, research/discovery, clinical care, administrative service. This award recognizes faculty member who:

  • Demonstrates commitment to the profession and to the EVMS mission, vision and values.
  • Demonstrates a high degree of professionalism.
  • Has served as an inspiration and role model to the EVMS community (e.g., students).
  • Surpasses requirements of his/her community faculty position and has achieved an exceptional record of continued extraordinary commitment and service to EVMS and its mission.
  • Promotes or improves the image of EVMS.

Eligibility and Award

All EVMS community faculty members in good standing with at least one year of service to the institution are eligible to receive recognition with these awards. Each recipient will receive a $500 monetary stipend and a commemorative award. A community faculty member previously recognized with an Award for Excellence is not eligible to receive the same award for a period of five years (see listing here).

This award honors a community faculty member who has demonstrated exceptional effort to advance the mission of EVMS to promote diversity, inclusion and health equity through:

  • Outstanding efforts in recruitment of a diverse talent - student, resident, faculty and staff (including African Americans, Hispanics, native Americans, women, veterans, LGBT, socio-economically disadvantaged groups, and people with disabilities).
  • Exemplary efforts in fostering a climate of inclusion for diverse individuals, cultivating diverse teams and actively implementing initiatives to mitigate bias in the working, learning and patient care environment.
  • Exemplary scholarship to advance diversity and community engagement, address health disparities and access to care.
  • Exemplary contributions to community outreach efforts.
  • Outstanding efforts in expanding learning opportunities for the EVMS/EVMS Medical Group and Hampton Roads Community focused on cultural competency, health equity and social justice.
  • Exemplary service as role model, mentor and sponsor in providing opportunities for growth and leadership of diverse individuals (women, under-represented groups, veterans).

Eligibility and Award

All EVMS community faculty members in good standing with at least one year of service to the institution are eligible to receive recognition with these awards. Each recipient will receive a $500 monetary stipend and a commemorative award. A community faculty member previously recognized with recognized with a Champion of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Award is ineligible to receive this award again (see listing here).

Award Selection Committee

The 2023 Faculty Award Selection Committee, comprised of previous award recipients and other EVMS and EVMS Medical Group employees, will evaluate the nominations of eligible nominees and select the 2023 recipients. The Faculty Award Selection Committee, at its sole discretion, reserves the right to determine that an award not be bestowed in a given year. This might occur if there are no nominations submitted in an award category, or if it is determined that the nominations submitted in an award category do not meet the award's criteria or eligibility requirements.
