Preparing for a survey visit by the LCME generally takes 18 to 24 months. The next accreditation review of EVMS School of Medicine is scheduled for Oct. 5 and Oct. 6, 2020. The process leading up to this review is underway. It is an intensive process requiring all members of our school to be engaged and supportive of the efforts moving forward, together.

The four phases of LCME Accreditation

Phase One: Assembly of the Data Collection Instrument (DCI) database of facts and figures related to the educational program leading to the MD degree

Phase Two: Institutional self-study, conducted by a Self-Study Task Force and an Independent Student Analysis (ISA):

  • Task Force: Faculty, administration and students will form subcommittees to review, analyze and critique the DCI.
  • ISA: Students from across all four cohorts will convene a committee to create a survey tool, administer the survey to their colleagues, analyze the findings and submit a report to the Task Force.

Phase Three: The Task Force produces an Executive Summary Report based on institutional strengths and weaknesses as reported by the Task Force and ISA.

Phase Four: An LCME Survey Team will virtually visit EVMS on Oct. 5 and Oct. 6, 2020.

LCME Gap Analysis

Dates: Sunday, Nov. 3 – Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2019

Lois Nora, MD, JD, and Virginia Hunt, MUA with Medical School Advisor Group (MSAG) visited the campus to conduct a gap analysis. During the two-day visit, the consultants reviewed key components of an early draft DCI and met with various people and groups in the school to identify potential challenges. As part of this visit, MSAG provided an orientation to the self-study.

LCME MOCK Site Visit

In preparation for our LCME Survey Team Visit, consultants from MSAG visited EVMS and conducted a mock site visit Monday, Aug. 31 and Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2020. This site visit was meant to mirror the actual site visit as closely as possible and to prepare students, faculty and administration for what to expect during the visit.

LCME Survey Team Visit

As part of the LCME accreditation process, an ad-hoc survey team will virtually visit EVMS on Monday, Oct. 5 and Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2020. The survey team will review our accreditation survey package (DCI, Self-Study, ISA and AAMC Medical School Graduate Questionnaire).

The results of the visit will be a survey team report with an accreditation status for the school.
