Clinical Care

headless doctor holds hand of headless female patientThe Division of Rheumatology provides comprehensive, patient-centered care for individuals living with autoimmune and inflammatory musculoskeletal diseases. Our clinical mission is grounded in the principles of precision diagnosis, evidence-based treatment, and coordinated interdisciplinary care.

Whether managing common conditions such as osteoarthritis or rare systemic autoimmune disorders, we aim to deliver care that is both highly specialized and deeply compassionate.

We offer a wide range of diagnostic and therapeutic services, including:

  • Comprehensive diagnostic evaluations for undiagnosed inflammatory, autoimmune, and musculoskeletal conditions
  • Joint and soft tissue aspirations and corticosteroid injections for pain relief and diagnostic clarity
  • Synovial fluid analysis using polarizing microscopy, performed in-house for rapid and accurate identification of crystal arthropathies
  • Administration and management of biologic therapies, immunosuppressive agents, and osteoporosis treatments, including infusion therapies when appropriate

Conditions We Treat

Our team has clinical expertise in the diagnosis and management of a broad spectrum of rheumatologic conditions, including:

  • Gout and Pseudogout
  • Inflammatory Myopathies (Polymyositis and Dermatomyositis)
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Osteopenia and Osteoporosis
  • Rheumatoid Arthritis
  • Systemic Sclerosis (Scleroderma)
  • Sjögren’s Syndrome
  • Spondyloarthropathies (including Ankylosing Spondylitis, Psoriatic Arthritis, Reactive Arthritis, and IBD-associated arthritis)
  • Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE)
  • Systemic Vasculitis

We also evaluate patients with chronic pain syndromes (such as fibromyalgia) and connective tissue disorders (such as Ehlers-Danlos syndrome), recognizing that these conditions often co-exist with or mimic rheumatic disease. In these cases, we provide a thoughtful assessment for underlying autoimmune or inflammatory contributors and share individualized treatment recommendations with referring providers.

Collaborative and Multidisciplinary Care

Rheumatologic diseases often affect multiple organ systems. Our division is deeply committed to multispecialty collaboration to optimize care and improve outcomes for patients with complex conditions.

We work closely with:

  • Ophthalmologists, in the care of uveitis and inflammatory eye diseases (e.g., sarcoidosis)
  • Otolaryngologists, for autoimmune hearing loss
  • Pulmonologists, managing interstitial lung disease with autoimmune origins
  • Cardiologists, in the treatment of pericarditis and other rheumatic cardiac conditions
  • We also serve as a consultative resource for non-rheumatology providers prescribing immunomodulatory and immunosuppressive agents, offering expertise in medication selection, monitoring, and risk mitigation.
