Seth Berney, MD, is a second generation academic rheumatologist. He attended Lehigh University in Bethlehem, PA where he received a Bachelor of Arts in Biology. Dr. Berney obtained his MD degree from the Temple University School of Medicine in Philadelphia, PA and completed Internal Medicine training at the University of Alabama-Birmingham (UAB) in Birmingham, Alabama.
After a clinical training year in Rheumatology and Clinical Immunology at New York University/Hospital for Joint Diseases, Dr. Berney returned to UAB to complete his fellowship in Rheumatology as well as a three-year research post-doctoral fellowship in Developmental and Clinical Immunology.
Upon completion of his training, he joined the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center at Shreveport as an assistant professor. Over his 20-year career there, he rose to the rank of professor of Medicine with tenure, the chief of the Division of Rheumatology and Clinical Immunology and director of the Center of Excellence for Arthritis and Rheumatology from 2005 to 2014.
Dr. Berney joined the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock as a tenured professor in October 2014 and served as the chief of the Division of Rheumatology and Clinical Immunology from 2014 to 2023. From 2017-2023, he served as the inaugural Eleanor A. Lipsmeyer Professor in Rheumatology.
Dr. Berney has been board-certified in Internal Medicine since 1991, in Rheumatology since 1996 and has received many accolades for his clinical care and teaching. He has an extensive history of leadership and is dedicated to optimizing the care of patients with rheumatologic diseases and educating trainees.
