It is impossible to think of Oncology Physicians in Hampton Roads without Mark Sinesi, MD PhD surfacing as top of mind.  Dr. Sinesi is well known as an extraordinary scientist and gifted teacher, but those privileged to know him describe him first and foremost as a compassionate healer whose tireless efforts in his chosen field benefit everyone he meets.

Dr. Sinesi  serves as Chair of EVMS Radiation Oncology, a position he has held since 2005.  Through this role Dr. Sinesi ensures the community’s only medical school offers the full complement of radiation oncology treatment as well as oversight and implementation of new modalities in a continually evolving field.

Dr. Sinesi’s leadership roles also include Medical Director of Radiation Oncology at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital and Associate Medical Director Steward Good Samaritan Cancer Center in Brockton, Mass and Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital.  He has previously served similar leadership roles at Bon Secours Hampton Roads hospitals, Chesapeake Regional Medical Center, Ahoskie Cancer Center, Sentara Obici and Careplex Hospitals, Outer Banks Cancer Center and the Lake Wright Cancer Center.  A few additional key committees that Dr. Sinesi currently represents radiation oncology for Sentara Health System are: Sentara Radiation Safety Committee, SNGH Executive Committee, Cancer Network Committee, Sentara System Breast Program Leadership Committee, Co-Chair and Sentara Best Practices Committee.

A gifted teacher, Dr. Sinesi serves as Elective Supervisor in Radiation Oncology at EVMS, Medical Physics Graduate program at Hampton University, Radiation Therapy Technology at Pitt Community College in addition to classes at Laboure College and Tufts University in Boston Mass, Colorado State University and Temple University School of Medicine.

Patients remain the core of Dr. Sinesi's practice.  Every patient is given instructions to call him at any time with questions or concerns surrounding their radiation therapy treatment plan.  This seemingly small gesture on his part is not lost or forgotten by his patients.

Dr. Sinesi is the very definition of an exemplary oncology physician.  Hampton Roads is most fortunate to have him in our midst.

Dr. Sinesi was chosen as a 2016 recipient of a Hampton Roads Healthcare Hero by Inside Business Magazine.
