EVMS Surgeons are the trauma surgeons for the region's only Level 1 Trauma Center at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. Our surgeons are fellowship trained in trauma and critical care with expertise in injury care available around the clock.

Injury is responsible for more deaths annually in people 44 years of younger, than all other causes combined. It is also responsible for the loss of more productive years of life than cancer and heart disease combined. Our trauma service evaluates about 2,000 injured patients annually. With our dedicated staff, in our own intensive care unit, we provide state-of-the-art care in the regions' best resource available.

Burns result in the hospitalization of approximately 240 patients every year, with many more patients treated on an outpatient basis. EVMS Medical Group surgeons provide medical care for burn patients at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital (SNGH). SNGH is the designated burn center regionally for Hampton Roads. Our physicians coordinate treatment with a team of highly skilled nurses, wound care specialists, respiratory therapists, nutritionists, physical and occupational therapists that provide a multidisciplinary approach to the burn patient resulting in the highest leve of care available. Our patients range from simple, minor burns to major burn injury due to industrial accidents.
