Brock Lecture Series: What’s Wrong with Advance Care Planning?

This program, hosted by Palliative Care Learning Collaborative will feature Marissa Galicia-Castillo, MD, MSEd, CMD, FACP, AGSF, FAAHPM, Director of Glennan Center for Geriatrics and Gerontology at EVMS. She will present "What's Wrong with Advance Care Planning" followed by a panel discussion. 

The panel will include Linda Christy, FNP, Lake Taylor Transitional Hospital; Aurora Durkee-Warren, RN, BSN, Sentara Martha Jefferson; Megan Barkhurst Mitchell, AGNP, Chesapeake Regional Healthcare; Chaplain Marie Pogorelec, Retired, Chesapeake Regional Hospital; Susan Thompson, LCSW, Sentara Norfolk General Hospital; and Kelly Thomson, MD, Eastern Virginia Medical School.

Objectives:

  1. Distinguish the difference between an Advance Care Plan/Advance Directive with Advance Care Planning
  2. Identify the issues related to not having an Advance Care Plan/Advance Directive
  3. Examine the strategies and methods used by Palliative Medicine professionals to approach the initiation of Advance Care Planning and completion of Advance Care Plan/Advance Directive.
