Dr. Leader recognized among elite Hampton Roads professionals
Inside Business recently selected Dr. Alexandra Leader, Director of Global Health, as one of its ‘Top 40 Under 40’ for her leadership, achievements and community service.
As Director of Global Health, Alexandra Leader, MD, MPH, Assistant Professor of Pediatrics, is dedicated to pursuing health equity for all through sustainable community partnerships in Hampton Roads and worldwide.
“It is an honor to be recognized by our community this way, and I am grateful for the opportunity to raise the profile of our work,” Dr. Leader says. “I hope that raising collective awareness of our EVMS global health initiatives will only continue to build and strengthen our partnerships in Hampton Roads and beyond.”
During her time at EVMS, she has established local programs, including Medical Spanish, Medical French and Refugee Health initiatives; a student-run bilingual free clinic for uninsured Hispanic community members; and support for rural medical clinics throughout Virginia.
“We have also consolidated global health partnerships in Mexico, the Dominican Republic, Haiti, Belize, Costa Rica, Kenya, Israel and India, where we consistently engage in collaborative health training, research and health service,” Dr. Leader says. “As a pediatric emergency medicine physician, I additionally have the privilege of working in the ER at CHKD.”
The annual list recognizes Hampton Roads residents under the age of 40 for their professional and community service.
