In honor of Resident and Fellow Appreciation Week, EVMS is proud to celebrate the 450 residents and fellows who help deliver quality patient care at more than a dozen clinical training sites across Hampton Roads.

"Our residents and fellows are among the nation’s best and brightest," says Francis Counselman, MD, Vice Dean for Graduate Medical Education. "They are an integral part of the healthcare system, serving as providers for patients and resources for medical students. They represent the future of medical education and care and come to the job with resilience, resourcefulness and — increasingly — a vision for how to improve care for everyone in a given community."

In recognition of the hard work and dedication of all residents and fellows and especially those serving at EVMS, Norfolk Mayor Kenneth Alexander issued a proclamation declaring Friday, February 23 as “Thank a Resident Day.”

In the proclamation, he encouraged all citizens, community agencies, and businesses to recognize the medical residents and fellow physicians within the community and thank them for their diligent work in safeguarding the health of Hampton Roads.

Thank a Resident and Fellow Day was created in 2018 by the Arnold P. Gold Foundation's Gold Humanism Honor Society to honor those in residency for their dedication to their institution and the medical field.
