Proposals being accepted for VIVA Open Course Grants
The Virtual Library of Virginia (VIVA), Virginia’s statewide academic library consortium which includes the EVMS Library, is currently seeking proposals for VIVA Open Course Grants.
This is the first year that grants will be awarded in four different categories.
Content creation grants:
- $5000 - $50,000
- Create or adapt materials for the classroom
- Provide materials to VIVA Open
- You produce the content; VIVA does the publishing work
Open pedagogy grants:
- $5,000 - $10,000
- Develop and document innovative use of OER in the classroom
- Provide syllabi, materials, and an instructor handbook to. VIVA Open
Open ancillary grants:
- $5,000 - $30,000
- Create ancillary materials for pre-existing OER
- Can include test banks, assignments, slides, or lectures
Large scale adoption grants:
- $4,000 - $20,000
- Intended to support the adoption of a text or group of resources by an academic unit, including departments and groups of instructors
Another benefit added beginning Spring 2023, VIVA will support the publication work for content creation projects, including providing copyediting, book design, platform, and illustration services for awarded projects.
Full and part-time faculty may apply. Proposals may involve one person or teams including teaching faculty, librarians, instructional designers, subject experts, or others as needed. Multi-institutional teams are also encouraged.
Each grant category has its own budget guidelines and timeline.
Applications are due on March 6, 2023 by email to vivaopen@gmu.edu. Award notification will take place by May 19, 2023. Award participants will be required to attend a grant kick-off workshop on July 20 and July 21, 2023.
