L.D. Britt, William Whittingham and John Caruso

As a student and surgery resident at EVMS, John Caruso, MD (MD ’90, Surgery Residency ’94), was particularly inspired by one of his teachers — L.D. Britt, MD, MPH, the Edward J. Brickhouse Chair in Surgery and Professor and Chair of Surgery.

Dr. Caruso has enjoyed a career as a successful neurosurgeon, and to show his appreciation for Dr. Britt's personal and professional impact, he commissioned his father-in-law and artist William Whittingham to paint a portrait of his former mentor. The teacher, former student and artist joined family members Oct. 13 in a small ceremony to unveil the portrait.

The artwork will hang in the entranceway to EVMS' Edward E. Brickell Medical Sciences Library.
