The Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education presented the 2024 John C. Gienapp Award to Linda Archer, PhD.

The award recognizes dedication to GME through outstanding contributions to the enhancement of residency education and ACGME accreditation activities.

Dr. Archer, formerly EVMS' Vice Dean of Graduate Education, is Professor of Family and Community Medicine and serves as the EVMS GME Ombudsperson.

“Dr. Archer has been essential to the growth and continued success of EVMS GME,” says Alfred Abuhamad, MD, President, Provost and Dean of the School of Medicine. “Dr. Archer has led the institution’s administrative oversight of this proud legacy of medical training and ensured that our various residency and fellowship training programs have kept pace with the times.

At EVMS, Dr. Archer has developed several educational programs including a Well-being Coaching Program; GME Diversity and Inclusion Subcommittee; standardization and transformation of the ACGME accreditation processes, and much more.

Dr. Archer says her achievements would not have been possible without the support of everyone involved in GME programs. “Successful leaders rarely accomplish goals and objectives without a strong and committed team. She adds that leaders must encourage and support growth and development in all staff members, both professional and administrative.

The ACGME presented the award to Dr. Archer at the organization's national conference in Orlando on March 7.
