Studying diseases across the lifespan
Lifespan diseases are medical conditions that begin either before birth or in early childhood and continue throughout life. CINID research programs include the study of how the prenatal environment can impact cardiovascular and mental health in later life. Another focus is how stress experienced during critical periods of development can alter one's cognition and determine the likelihood of drug addiction.
With aging can come age-related diseases. CINID researchers study how biological aging can increase the risk of diseases as well as the mechanisms of diseases associated with aging and old age. These include studies of atherosclerosis, Alzheimer’s disease, lung diseases, sleep disturbances and urological diseases.
