Web Technologies launched the first phase of the EVMS.edu Website Refresh Project on Friday, June 29. The first phase implements a new, more visually appealing design and includes more opportunities for interactivity. These features will be expanded and more fully integrated as Phases 2 and 3 are completed. Phase 1 included the redesign of the EVMS home page and the five main landing pages:

Web traffic was analyzed to identify the website’s most popular links, and those options were added under the three buttons on the right-hand side of the home page so that users can quickly navigate to this content. Clicking the button will take the user to the landing page; clicking the plus sign will reveal the most popular links for that section.

Clicking on the icon at the top right-hand corner of any page will take the user deeper into the full menu to explore the entire website. Clicking the plus symbol will expand the navigation options for the section. Clicking the minus symbol or moving backward through the navigation will collapse those options.

A new feature has been added to the bottom of these redesigned pages — a grid of news and informational items under the heading “Discover EVMS.” It offers a glimpse of what’s happening around campus. On the home page, filters enable users to find events, social media posts and news articles, as well as information about EVMS education, patient care and research programs. The grid is pre-filtered for each landing page (education items on the Education landing pages, research items on the Research landing page, etc.).

Incremental changes to the website will be made throughout the year. The next phase of the project will focus on redesigning the School of Medicine and School of Health Professions web pages. This is expected to be completed by September.

The third phase will address Education, Research and Administration departmental web pages, with an expected completion date of Dec. 31. Clinical pages will be part of Phase 4 and will be addressed after the completion of the initial project.
