During a recent news segment on WAVY-10, Jillian Ulery helped demystify the profession of art therapy and counseling, while educating viewers on how the valuable health service can assist cancer patients and others.

“[Art therapy] is not about making pretty art, it’s about making meaningful art that heals you,” Jillian Ulery, ATC Class of 2023, said during the segment, which aired during the last week in October, in coordination with Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Ms. Ulery recently completed her first internship at the Sentara Brock Cancer Center.

Mary Roberts, PhD, LPC-ACS, ATR-BC, ATCS, Program Director and Associate Professor in the School of Health Professions, says that practical experience is a hallmark of the EVMS Art Therapy and Counseling, MS program.
