2019 Commencement 800x533

EVMS celebrated commencement on May 14 as 475 students joined the ranks of EVMS alumni and enter into careers in health professions and medicine.

This year’s commencement speaker was Elias Zerhouni, MD, Professor Emeritus of Radiology and Biomedical Engineering at Johns Hopkins University and a former director of the National Institutes of Health where he oversaw the NIH’s 27 institutes and centers and more than 18,000 employees.

“Dr. Elias Zerhouni is a world-class physician, scientist, inventor and entrepreneur who has left an indelible mark on the field of medicine,” says Dr. Alfred Abuhamad, Interim President, Provost and Dean of the School of Medicine. “We are very fortunate to have him join us for this year’s commencement.”

Commencement and program-specific events were held in person this year, a departure from virtual events during the past two years of the pandemic.

The commencement ceremony was held at 10 a.m. at Norfolk Scope Arena.
