Connie McKenzie

Two EVMS leaders will be honored later this month as 2022 Inside Business for Women in Business Achievement Award winners.

Connie McKenzie, MSW, CFRE, Vice President of Development and Alumni Relations (pictured), joined EVMS in 2009. She guides a department of Development and Alumni Relations professionals who build relationships with individuals, foundations and corporations capable of gifts to EVMS.

Since she arrived at EVMS, McKenzie’s leadership has resulted in more than $150 million in commitments to EVMS. During that time, she has led two successful capital campaigns. The first exceeded its goal by 60%. The second campaign EVMS’ Deliver on the Promise campaign, to be completed in June — will more than double its goal and raise $80 million for EVMS.

"EVMS is proud to celebrate Connie as a 2022 Women in Business honoree," says Alfred Abuhamad, MD, President, Provost and Dean of the School of Medicine. "Connie’s leadership has resulted in philanthropic commitments to EVMS that have transformed our campus, sparked new research endeavors and increased scholarships for aspiring healthcare professionals."

Through McKenzie’s leadership of the Development team, investment from philanthropic gifts have built Lester Hall, Waitzer Hall, established the Leroy T. Canoles Jr. Cancer Research Center, M. Foscue Brock Institute for Community and Global Health, The Fine Family Academy of Educators, the Lawrence J. Goldrich Institute for Integrated NeuroHealth and, importantly, increased scholarship funding by more than 40% over the past five years.

"One of the things I am most proud of is my amazing team," McKenzie says. "They are stellar professionals who exceed the mark every time."

In addition, Charity Volman-Winn, President of TowneBank Norfolk and a Trustee of the EVMS Foundation, also has been named to the Inside Business list.

At TowneBank, Volman-Winn is responsible for the region’s staffing, overall member satisfaction, and financial results. She joined TowneBank in 2019 and has more than three decades of banking industry experience.

Volman-Winn serves as Board Chair of the d'Art Center, Board Member for the ODU's Women's Initiative Network and Edmarc Hospice for Children, and as a trustee of The Chrysler Museum of Art. She also served previously as president of Greater Norfolk Corporation.
