It was smooth sailing for 34 boats during this month’s Wine, Women and Fishing, an event produced by Chesapeake Bay Wine Classic Foundation.

The billfish tournament, held every August, raises funds for the EVMS Leroy T. Canoles Jr. Cancer Research Center. The cancer center's distinguished team of surgeons, pathologists, lab researchers and radiologists work collaboratively toward better diagnostic, prognostic and therapeutic tools. Since 2004, the tournament has raised more than $700,000 to benefit the cancer center's breast cancer research.

To show their appreciation for the fundraiser, 15 faculty and staff members from the cancer center volunteered at the event.

Taking first place in this year’s tournament was the team Sea Hound with two blue marlin, one white marlin and two sailfish. The team Fender Bender (pictured above) won the Crazy Crew Costume Contest.

Attendance at the event’s annual Dock Party, which closed the tournament weekend Sunday evening, surpassed 600.
