Dr. Abuhamad-Pioneer award from national ultrasound org

Alfred Abuhamad, MD, Mason C. Andrews Chair in Obstetrics and Gynecology, Professor and Chair of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and Vice Dean for Clinical Affairs, has been chosen to receive a key award from the American Institute for Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM).

At the organization's annual meeting in New York City in March, Dr. Abuhamad received the Joseph H. Holmes Clinical Pioneer Award in recognition of his career achievements in education, patient care and research. The award is presented annuallly to two individuals – one each from the clinical sciences and the basic sciences.

Dr. Abuhamad is an internationally known expert in ultrasound. During his term as President of the AIUM, he oversaw a year-long initiative to encourage the widespread use of ultrasound.

He is the author of five books, 31 book chapters and 156 articles in peer-reviewed journals. His latest work, an e-book with free access, is “Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology: A Practical Approach.” The book has been translated into several languages.
