The Cognitive Therapy division is dedicated to scientifically-supported clinical services, educational programs and research opportunities. Our faculty have specialized training and interests in cognitive therapy, one of the most researched forms of psychotherapy.
We offer a variety of educational services for EVMS psychiatry residents, psychology interns and psychology graduate students. Our division also offers continuing education opportunities for licensed mental health professions and clinical supervision in cognitive therapy under experienced cognitive therapists. Continuing medical education, continuing professional education and continuing education credits are available.
These education programs include:
- Cognitive therapy seminars
- Clinical case conferences
- Grand rounds
- Continuing education programs
- Clinical supervision
Our long-term goal is to use and expand empirically-based cognitive behavioral therapy protocols for treating common disorders, such as depression, anxiety, eating disorders and obsessive-compulsive disorders, and assessing their efficacy. The Cognitive Therapy division is also receptive to research ideas from trainees and seasoned clinicians who are completing dissertations or related research. All research conducted with the division must be approved by the Eastern Virginia Medical School Institutional Review Board.
