Effective June 30, 2021, Eastern Virginia Medical School Jones Institute for Reproductive Medicine (EVMS Jones Institute) located at 601 Colley Avenue, Norfolk, VA 23507, and 2075 Glenn Mitchell Drive, Suite 500, Virginia Beach, VA 23456, will transition all patient care to our affiliated partner Shady Grove Fertility (SGF), a premier fertility center and home to 85,000 babies born. Shady Grove Fertility Jones Institute will open in the Norfolk location of the EVMS Jones Institute on July 7, 2021.

EVMS Jones Institute will be transition its clinical practice as of June 30, 2021 to its affiliated partner Shady Grove Fertility (SGF). SGF, a premier fertility program and home to 85,000 babies born, has hired physician Tarita Pakrashi, MD, formerly with EVMS Jones Institute, who will bring her clinical expertise to the brand new Shady Grove Fertility Jones Institute (SGF Jones Institute), which will occupy space in the current Norfolk location of the EVMS Jones Institute at 601 Colley Avenue, Norfolk, VA 23507, starting July 7, 2021.
2021 commemorates 30 years of SGF providing medical and service excellence to patients from all 50 states and 35 countries around the world.
SGF Jones Institute, home to SGF’s eleventh full-service embryology laboratory, will open on July 7, 2021. SGF Jones Institute will offer a full range of comprehensive fertility services, including fertility and ovarian reserve testing and diagnosis; semen analysis; hysterosalpingogram (HSG); low-tech fertility treatment options; in vitro fertilization (IVF); donor egg, sperm, and embryo; genetic screening and testing; gestational carrier; egg freezing; fertility preservation for patients with cancer; and LGBTQ+ family building.
SGF Jones Institute will offer a wide insurance network and patients will have an opportunity to meet with a dedicated Financial Counselor to learn about their options. SGF Jones Institute offers innovative financial programs, including their flagship 100% refund guarantee program for IVF and donor egg treatment. Patients who qualify take home a baby or receive 100% refund. Some exclusions apply.
The EVMS Jones Institute fertility program is transitioning to SGF. Patients have the option to continue their care with Tarita Pakrashi, MD, at the same Norfolk location with SGF Jones Institute, or transition their care elsewhere.
Former EVMS Jones Institute patients will benefit from SGF’s proven track record, clinical expertise, patient-centric approach to care, and long-standing commitment to increase access to affordable quality care. 96% of SGF patients would recommend SGF to a family member or friend.
SGF offers 39 locations throughout Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Maryland, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia and the District of Columbia, as well as Santiago, Chile. SGF is home to 85,000 babies born and counting.
A: If you choose to transition to SGF Jones Institute, you may choose to be seen virtually by an existing SGF Richmond physician as long as you are willing to travel to the SGF Richmond Stony Point location for procedures, or you may schedule with Tarita Pakrashi, MD, in the Norfolk location.

SGF’s newest (eleventh) full-service embryology laboratory located in Norfolk, VA, is equipped with the latest technology to give patients every advantage on their journey to conceive, including HEPA-filtered clean air ventilation systems, heated work stations that simulate the In Vivo (Latin for “within the living”) environment, anti-vibration tables that prevent harm to specimens should the table shake, highly sophisticated inverted microscopes to better evaluate embryo growth and development, and advanced incubators and media, to name a few.
This remains a discussion between you and your physician, as each patient’s case is unique; however, we don’t foresee any major changes to your treatment protocol.
No. Redundant precautionary protocols will continue to be followed by SGF Jones Institute staff to ensure the safety of frozen gametes. This is our top priority.
Upon becoming established as a new patient at SGF, you will have the option to speak with a dedicated SGF Financial Counselor about your insurance status and SGF’s exclusive financial programs.
We are in the process of transitioning insurances and becoming credentialed with all payers in the Norfolk market; by the time you’re seen by your SGF physician, it is likely that all insurance contracts will be in place. In the meantime, we are happy to schedule you and onboard you into the SGF practice as we move forward.
If you receive an out-of-network denial, please contact your SGF Financial Counselor. We are happy to work with you and the payer on your behalf during this transition.
Approximately 70% of SGF patients have some coverage for infertility treatment and 90% have coverage for their initial consultation. Below is a list of insurance networks accepted by SGF Richmond. We expect the same networks to cover Dr. Pakrashi's patients as well. Please note that each state accepts different insurances.

If your insurance network is not listed, your SGF Financial Counselor will discuss financial options with you. Please contact your SGF Financial Counselor to verify benefits.
Many financial options are available through SGF for patients who do not have infertility treatment coverage. Our knowledgeable financial counselors can help explore these options with you.
Patients who currently have insurance coverage that SGF does not accept have 3 options:
- Consult your SGF Financial Counselor to determine if you have out-of-network coverage.
- Consult your SGF Financial Counselor to discuss other options for care in your area.
- Consult your SGF Financial Counselor to discuss self-pay options and to take advantage of SGF’s discount and financial programs.
When insurance does not cover the cost of your fertility treatment, SGF offers a variety of financial options to help offset the cost of treatment, such as:
- 100% Refund Program for IVF and Donor Egg (to qualifying patients)
- Shared Help Discount Program
- Multi-Cycle Discount Program for IVF
- Military Discount
- Medication Discount

SGF Financial Counselors are ready and available to review each case and will provide individual information about cost. Available SGF financial packages and options will be discussed with you.
No. A new authorization will be required. Your SGF Financial Counselor will work with the SGF Insurance Benefits Verification (IBV) Team to assist in this process.
If you have prepaid for a cycle, and you’re intending to undergo treatment at SGF after transition, SGF will honor those fees.
Yes. SGF works with Fertility Finance, LLC. Fertility Finance specializes in providing patient financing services for all fertility treatment options. They offer an easy loan process and competitive rates.
A: SGF will honor your billing cycle and you will only receive your next bill on your anniversary.
A: Legacy patients (those transferring custody of specimens from EVMS Jones Institute to SGF Jones Institute) will NOT be billed by SGF until their next freeze anniversary. Once the freeze date anniversary rolls around, patients will be billed $55 per month by SGF through Embryo Options.
Yes, you will get refunded the prorated amount for unused storage fees by EVMS Jones Institute after the transition. The details of the exact mechanism are still being finalized.
You will be contacted by Embryo Options after the transition before your billing anniversary to set up your Embryo Options account. You will also be contacted by SGF Jones Institute after you sign the cryostorage consents.
Established patients completing treatment with EVMS Jones Institute through June 30, 2021, may call 757.446.7100 as they normally would in order to schedule an appointment or to seek other assistance.
