Benjamin M. Goodman, MD

Internal Medicine

Born and raised just one hour away in rural Franklin, Virginia, I am especially proud to have been a member of the EVMS family since 1996. After briefly making it out of the state to attend the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, I matriculated into EVMS as a member of the MD class of 2000. Subsequently, I completed my internal medicine residency and served one year as chief resident and clinical instructor prior to joining the faculty in July, 2004.

In addition to general internal medicine, I have a special interest in the longitudinal care of adults with sickle cell disease. Along with one of my partners, I helped to form the Sickle Cell Disease Management Program at EVMS where we seek to expand access to and improve care for this patient population. I have been active in research related to sickle cell disease and am currently involved in both NIH and industry funded projects.

Outside the clinical arena, my passion is medical education. I have served as co-Director of our M1 Introduction to the Patient course since 2007. After seven years as an associate program director of the internal medicine residency, I took over as program director in 2012. In this capacity I strive to create a supportive and rich academic environment, allowing our residents to flourish and preparing them to carry the torch of healthcare for generations to come.
