Organizers of the Wine, Women & Fishing fundraising event, produced by the Chesapeake Bay Wine Classic Foundation, presented a check to EVMS for $76,700 from the 2015 event to Richard Homan, MD, President and Provost of EVMS and Dean of the School of Medicine, and O. John Semmes, PhD, Professor of Microbiology and Molecular Cell Biology and Director of the Leroy T. Canoles Jr. Cancer Research Center. This latest donation brings the annual event’s total contributions to EVMS to $450,000 since 2004, most of which has funded breast cancer research.
“This event is all about women, and we couldn’t think of a better cause to support than breast cancer research at EVMS,” says Linda Church, who has chaired Wine, Women & Fishing since its inception. “If you’re going to donate, you want your dollars used in the most efficient way, and that’s what EVMS does. This year our goal is $100,000.”
The 2016 event will be held the weekend of Aug. 19-21. A fundraising wine dinner is set for Friday evening. Registration for the fishing tournament will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday. The tournament starts at 8:30 a.m. Sunday, the post-tournament dock party kicks off at 5 p.m. and is followed by the awards presentation, silent auction, music and dinner at 7 p.m.
