Our fellows are lifelong teachers and learners who deliver compassionate, patient-centered care at EVMS Sleep Medicine and engage in innovative research with nationally recognized leaders in the field.
Fellows rotate through several American Academy of Sleep Medicine-accredited sites in our one-year program as they prepare for the Sleep Medicine Board Examination.
Where you'll train
EVMS Williams Hall
EVMS Williams Hall houses EVMS Sleep Medicine's state-of-the-art sleep center, where fellows complete clinical rotations. Our fellows work with board-certified physicians to treat insomnia, obstructive sleep apnea and narcolepsy.
Hampton Veterans Administration Medical Center (VAMC)
The Hampton VAMC has 142 acute beds in medicine, surgery, psychiatry and neurology, 234 extended care beds in intermediate medicine, palliative (hospice) care, spinal cord injury and nursing home care and a 294-bed rehabilitative residential care domiciliary for a total of 670 operating beds. Established in 1870, Hampton is the fourth oldest VA hospital in the country. Fellows gain adult sleep medicine clinical experience and work in the sleep lab.
Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters
Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters is the only freestanding children's hospital in Virginia. With 206 beds, it is the regional pediatric referral center for coastal Virginia and northeastern North Carolina. The hospital, a pediatric Level I trauma center, is home to the area's largest and most advanced neonatal and pediatric intensive care units, as well as the state's only acute inpatient rehabilitation unit. Faculty are involved in research locally, nationally and internationally. Fellows gain experience in pediatric sleep medicine at CHKD's four-bed AASM-accredited Sleep Medicine Clinic.
Sentara Norfolk General Hospital
Sentara Norfolk General Hospital is home to the area's only Level I trauma center and burn trauma unit, the region's premier heart program and the primary teaching hospital for EVMS. Its active cardiology, cardiac rehabilitation, sleep medicine, epilepsy and oncology programs, as well as its heart, lung, kidney and pancreas transplant programs, make Sentara Norfolk General ideal for fellowship training. Fellows rotate through the six-bed Sentara Sleep Center, which treats nearly 1,400 patients per year. Sentara's sleep centers are accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine.
