Power partnership

This practicum is a collaboration between EVMS and Emergency Physicians of Tidewater (EPT) – one of the largest emergency medicine physician practices in Virginia.

Scholars are full-time EVMS students and employees of EPT, and receive a generous annual stipend with opportunities for immediate hire after completing the program.

Why emergency medicine?

Experience the satisfaction of saving lives and make a direct impact
on patients.

Learn the ins and outs of trauma surgery, critical care, pediatric emergency medicine and more.

Think on your feet and face a broad range of new challenges everyday.

Dynamic learning environment

Scholars train in eight different emergency departments, including a Level I trauma center, pediatric hospital, stand-alone emergency departments and urban and rural settings, providing exposure to a variety of patient populations and practices.

Scholars are educated in a dynamic curriculum modeled on a flipped classroom concept, specifically geared toward physician assistant practice. Scholars will participate in lectures, small group discussions, simulations, procedural skills sessions, journal clubs, an ultrasound course and professional certification courses throughout the practicum year.

Medical professionals and students work together to treat a patient.
