Welcome to the Macon & Joan Brock Virginia Health Sciences Vascular Surgery program at Old Dominion University.

Hosam F. El Sayed, MBBChIn 2025, we proudly celebrate the 50th anniversary of our Vascular Surgery Fellowship Program. As the largest vascular surgery group in the region—serving patients from Northern Virginia to Richmond and into Northern North Carolina—we are also among the most prominent programs nationwide. Our world-class faculty, state-of-the-art facilities, and advanced endovascular techniques provide an unparalleled training experience, with a strong emphasis on open aortic surgery, including complex visceral segment and thoracoabdominal procedures.

Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, a tertiary care Level I trauma center, offers two cutting-edge hybrid operating rooms and two dedicated endovascular suites. Our dedicated vascular staff, equipped with the latest vascular technologies, is available around the clock. Additionally, our strong partnership with the medical industry grants us early access to innovative clinical devices across all areas of vascular surgery, including aortic, carotid, lower extremity, vascular access, and venous interventions.

Our program features one of the largest vascular laboratories in the country and provides extensive vascular ultrasound training. Trainees have abundant opportunities for clinical research, frequently presenting at national and regional conferences and publishing in esteemed vascular journals. We ensure comprehensive exposure to all aspects of vascular surgery, preparing our graduates to excel in diverse practice settings, from major academic institutions to hybrid models and private practice.

Despite our demanding clinical volume, the training environment at EVMS remains collegial and supportive, fostering strong mentorship and collaboration between trainees and faculty.

Beyond the hospital, Hampton Roads offers an exceptional quality of life, with four distinct seasons, a reasonable cost of living, and easy access to parks, beaches, and mountains.

We look forward to the opportunity to train with you.
