Current State Licensing Requirements
In addition to rigorous academic and clinical training art therapists pursue further credentialing, administered on the national level by the Art Therapy Credentials Board (ATCB). Depending on the state of practice, art therapists may need to attain additional licensure in art therapy or a related mental health field. A Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) should be obtained for any state that does not currently have an Art Therapy specific license.
Requirements for professional licensure can vary by state and can change without notice. All prospective students should consult the state licensing body in the state in which they reside or seek to be licensed to ensure that the degree they earn will meet requirements for licensure in that state. Students should refer to their state licensing body for further information.
