    • Approach To Teaching

Dr. Goodmurphy believes that a crucial component of learning involves wanting to learn. The role of the teacher is to forge a collaborative and dynamic relationship between teacher and student that cultivates the desire to learn. A teacher should stimulate students to strive for as much knowledge as they desire in order to satisfy their intellectual curiosity, academic requirements and professional responsibilities.

Long ago Hippocrates noted that, “A knowledge of the human body is the beginning of medicine.” Anatomical studies also provide the academic background, language, as well as the scientific and clinical environment to begin not only the study of medicine but of dentistry, rehabilitation sciences and many other health professions. I believe that the computer, lecture theater, laboratories and the fields of surface and radiological anatomy can all be integrated into a program that serves to introduce the students to the art and science of Anatomy. A successful teacher should strive to include a healthy mix of enjoyment and humor along with an assortment of extracurricular activities and experiences so that students realize the rewards that can be obtained by continuing to learn about the Anatomical Sciences well after their formal education has concluded.

      About The Project

Dr. Goodmurphy created the Anatomy Guy website as a freely and globally available, education website in August of 2010. The site started out with anatomical dissection videos to assist students with both the materials associated with dissections and to assist them on how to perform the dissections.

Since its starting point, it has expanded to provide over 450 videos that include foundational sciences such as anatomy, neuroanatomy, histology and pathology, as well as many clinical videos from medical imaging to surgical and non surgical subspecialties.

Besides the goal of helping to build a global exposure for EVMS it is anticipated that the site will become a source for vertically and horizontally integrated medical education at multiple levels. It addresses the EVMS goals by contributing to Community Focus and Global Impact.
