Family Eligibility Hooding Doctoral Degree Students (MD, PhD, DHSc, DMSc, EdD)
Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS) recognizes the value of family legacy, tradition, and support in the professional development of our students and in supporting the mission of our institution. We therefore welcome eligible family members to participate in the EVMS Commencement ceremonies for doctoral students.
As such, an eligible family member(s) holding an MD degree may hood a graduating MD student at Commencement. Likewise, an eligible family member(s) holding a PhD, DHSc, DMSc or EdD degree may hood a graduating student with the same PhD, DHSc, DMSc, or EdD degree.
Up to 2 family members may participate in the hooding of their graduate at Commencement. Eligible family members must:
• be a spouse, parent, grandparent, or sibling of the student and
• hold the same degree that will be conferred upon the student and
• be a graduate of EVMS or
• hold a faculty appointment at EVMS or
• be a current or former member of the EVMS Board of Visitors, Board of Trustees, or EVMS Medical Group Board or
• have an emeritus designation bestowed by EVMS
