Endourology, Laparoscopic and Robotic Surgery
A fellowship in Endourology/Laparoscopy was founded in 2002 by Michael D. Fabrizio, and is accredited by the Endourology Society. Clinical exposure to advanced endourology and laparoscopy procedures is obtained including percutaneous/ureteroscopy, laparoscopic/robotic radical prostatectomy, and the full range of laparoscopic kidney surgery—radical nephrectomy, partial nephrectomy, donor nephrectomy, cryotherapy, pyeloplasty, and adrenalectomy.
Four active faculty, one community, and two Navy routinely employ laparoscopic techniques, and therefore both residents and fellows are well-trained. Endourology/Laparoscopy fellows are expected to obtain a Virginia License and credentials as junior faculty so they can practice limited general urology. Clinical research with presentation at meetings is supported.
