Residency: Elective Rotations

One of our fortés as a residency program is the abundance of elective opportunities.

In accordance with the ACGME requirements, all residents complete four core electives, all of which are available at CHKD. Additionally, residents must commit to at least 7 months in subspcecialty rotations, completing atleast 4 one-month block rotations (See Current ACGME Guidelines).

Some residents rotate with pediatric neurosurgeons and cardiothoracic surgeons while others even create their own electives, subject to the approval of the Residency Program Director.  These include elective months for international medicine interests (see Global Health section), research, quality improvement and child advocacy.
