The Nicholas A. D’Amato, MD Memorial Lecture

Dr. Nicholas D’Amato, a Navy veteran, who served as Chief of Pathology at Portsmouth Naval Hospital, was a beloved founding member of the faculty in EVMS Pathology and Anatomy, joining EVMS in 1974.  Dr. D’Amato was also the founding director of the EVMS History of Medicine division and authored a three-volume collection, "Vignettes, A History of Medicine."

EVMS Pathology & Anatomy recently established The Nicholas A. D’Amato, MD Memorial Lecture Fund in memory of Dr. Nicholas D’Amato who passed away on December 23, 2013.  EVMS Pathology & Anatomy funded $25,000 to endow the lectureship at EVMS.  The Lectureship brings distinguished scholars to EVMS to present a lecture, or series of lectures, to physicians, residents, health care professionals and students on topics of interest to Dr. D’Amato, which includes medical education, medical humanities, pathology and anatomy.

It is the policy of the EVMS Foundation that five percent (5%) of the total gift amount of a restricted gift made to benefit EVMS will be allocated to the unrestricted EVMS Fund. Beginning with any restricted gift made on or after July 1, 2012, EVMSF will allocate five percent (5%) of the total gift of each restricted gift to the EVMS Fund.
