Application Qualifications


 The Deadline for Application is November 20. 

All applicants are required to submit:

  • Curriculum Vitae (CV)
  • A letter of Intent / Personal Statement
  • Two letters of Recommendation (One must be from their EM Residency Program Director)
  • Submit to Carol McCammon, MD, MPH, FACEP at

CV must be current.

The letter of intent should be one page or less and describe interests in International Emergency Medicine, experiences, and how the Fellowship may enhance the candidate's career goals and expectations.

Interview offers will be extended at the Fellowship Director's discretion.  The Fellow will be notified of acceptance or exclusion through email correspondence.  For Fellows interested in the two-year track with an MPH degree, the application to the MPH program of choice must be completed prior to the school's application deadlines. Failure to meet these requirements may exclude the Fellow from the MPH Program.

  • For matriculation in June 2019, application deadline is December 1, 2018.
  • For matriculation in November 2019, application deadline is July 1, 2019.



All applicants must graduate from an ACGME-accredited Emergency Medicine residency program and be considered board-prepared or board-certified (BP/BC) by the American Board of Emergency Medicine (ABEM) or the American Osteopathic Board of Emergency Medicine (AOBEM). In addition, all applicants must qualify for a Virginia state medical license and be able to be credentialed in the Sentara Health System.

Masters of Public Health (MPH):

Fellows on the two-year track will complete all the requirements for a Master in Public Health (MPH) degree from the institution of their choice, including the opportunity to enroll in Eastern Virginia Medical School’s MPH program among other options with online course offerings. Fellows will be required to complete a separate application for admission and be accepted to the MPH program of their choice prior to starting the MPH and fellowship. It is anticipated that the fellow will complete the MPH degree within 18-24 months depending on the program chosen.
