Geoffrey Thompson PhD, ATR-BC, LCAT is a board certified licensed creative art therapist, with over thirty five years experience working in acute psychiatry. Geoffrey has published articles and a book chapter about art therapy and has presented at conferences internationally. He earned an MFA from the City University of New York, Hunter College and an MA in creative arts therapy from the Union Institute and University at Vermont College. Geoffrey recently completed a PhD from Saybrook University in San Francisco, with a transdisciplinary focus across the fields of philosophy, humanistic psychology and art therapy.

Geoffrey worked at the Community Mental Health Center of Maimonides Medical center in New York City until 2013 and has extensive experience with adults in acute psychiatry and varying levels of outpatient care.

In addition to recently becoming a community faculty member at EVMS, he maintains a private practice and is currently pursuing research interests in the integration of aesthetics, philosophy and art psychotherapy within the context of concepts of self, narrative identity and de-stigmatization of the effects of psychopathology. Geoffrey has previously taught studio art, philosophy and art therapy and is a practicing artist who has exhibited his work internationally. Geoffrey serves on the editorial board of the journal: Art Therapy and is the Chair of the Editorial Board of the Human Science Institute, Park City, Utah.
